Announces Dr. James Giordano as New Executive

THE INSTITUTE FOR BIODEFENSE RESEARCH NAMES EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR DR. JAMES GIORDANO TAKES THE HELM AT NON-PROFIT
MANASSAS, VA (August 25, 2021). The Institute for Biodefense Research (IBR) announced today that Dr. James Giordano has been named executive director. The Institute focuses upon current and near-term developments chemical, biological and data/information sciences and technologies that are vital to s national defense and security and associated public health and policy applications.
According to Dr. Denise Baken, President of the IBR, “The Institute, and biodefense at large, will benefit greatly from Dr. Giordano’s experience, expertise, and insight as we engage this broadened vision, mission, and effort.”
Giordano, a renowned neuroscientist and ethicist, is Professor in the Departments of Neurology and Biochemistry, and Senior Scholar in Residence of the Pellegrino Center for Clinical Bioethics at Georgetown University Medical Center; , a Senior Fellow in in Biosecurity, Technology and Ethics at the US Naval War College; Distinguished Fellow in Science, Technology and Ethics at the United States Naval Academy, and Bioethicist of the Defense Medical Ethics Center (DMEC) in Washington, DC.
Commenting on the appointment of Dr. Giordano, Baken said, “We are pleased that Dr. Giordano has joined our effort to expand the Institute’s focus on the broader biodefense research community. He brings a new drive and emphasis on the many pivotal areas our community has from a national security perspective . This is a great addition.”
